First Aid kit for parents

It is necessary to have a first aid kit in the house. Keep it in a safe place, inaccessible by children, preferably in a locked cabinet, somewhere high up. The first aid kit could contain, for injuries:

  • Elastic bandages and gauze bandages
  • Triangular bandage
  • Sterile gauze in packages
  • Cotton wool 250gr.
  • Plasters and plaster tape
  • Strip sticker package
  • Large safety pins
  • Tongue spatulas
  • Small scissors

In addition, the home medicine cabinet would be good to contain:

  • Paper or plastic cups
  • Soap
  • Thermometer
  • Paracetamol (Depon) for children
  • Anti-inflammatory syrup (e.g. Algofren, Ponstan or Gantil)
  • Betadine antiseptic
  • Ipepac syrup (emetic)
  • Simple ointment for bites/ iodine
  • Anti-inflammatory ointment  and antihistaminic gel ( for insect bites or rashes)
  • Whatever medication the child takes regularly – stock at least for a week

In addition, it would be very useful to make a similar first aid kit for the car, in order to have it with you when you are on vacation. This kit could contain the above. For trips you can also add:

  • Medication for nausea (dramamine) for older, school-aged children
  • Insect repellent (herbal for smaller children, pharmaceutical for older)
  • If there is an allergic person in the family, don’t forget to take with you wherever you go, the medication recommended by the doctor (e.g. cortisone, adrenaline)

Finally, it is very important to have the necessary emergency telephone numbers with you wherever you go.

  • The telephone number of the Hospital/ Health Center at the place you are going
  • The telephone number of your paediatrician
  • The telephone number of the Poison Control Center 210 7793777
